Our commitment
OurTrainingRoom is committed to providing an inclusive digital learning environment that can be accessed and used by as many people as reasonably possible, including people who use assistive technologies or who have visual, hearing, motor, cognitive, learning or other disabilities.
Accessibility is part of our ongoing platform development, maintenance and quality-assurance process. We recognize that accessibility is not a one-time project and that standards, assistive technologies and user needs continue to evolve.
Applicable accessibility standard
For public websites and web content to which Ontario's web accessibility requirements apply, Ontario Regulation 191/11 requires designated public-sector organizations and large organizations to conform with the World Wide Web Consortium's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 at Level AA, subject to the exceptions provided by the Regulation.
OurTrainingRoom uses WCAG 2.0 Level AA as the baseline for its current accessibility remediation program. Where practical, we also consider newer accessibility guidance and accepted accessible-design practices when developing or substantially revising functionality.
Our accessibility improvement program
We are progressively reviewing existing functionality and incorporating accessibility requirements into new development. Our work includes, as applicable:
- supporting keyboard navigation without requiring a mouse;
- providing visible keyboard focus indicators;
- improving page structure, headings, landmarks and reading order;
- providing meaningful text alternatives for non-text content;
- improving labels, instructions and error identification for forms and controls;
- reviewing colour contrast and ensuring that information is not communicated by colour alone;
- supporting text resizing and responsive presentation;
- improving compatibility with screen readers and other assistive technologies;
- reviewing links, buttons, menus, dialogs and other interactive controls for accessible operation;
- supporting accessible alternatives for multimedia where applicable; and
- including accessibility review in new and substantially revised platform functionality.
Testing and remediation
Accessibility issues may be identified through automated testing, manual review, keyboard-only testing, assistive-technology testing, development review and feedback from users or client organizations. Automated testing alone cannot establish WCAG conformance, so we use a combination of testing methods where appropriate.
When an accessibility barrier is identified, we assess its impact, affected users and technical complexity and then prioritize remediation as part of our ongoing development process. Critical barriers that prevent access to essential functionality receive priority.
Third-party and customer-provided content
OurTrainingRoom is a learning platform through which client organizations may create, upload, link to or otherwise provide their own courses, documents, videos, images, SCORM packages, H5P activities and other learning materials. We work to make the OurTrainingRoom platform and the tools under our control accessible; however, the accessibility of content supplied or controlled by a client organization or third party may depend on that content provider.
If a reported barrier relates to client-supplied or third-party content, we will make reasonable efforts to identify the source of the issue and, where appropriate, work with the responsible organization to support an accessible solution.
Accessible formats and communication supports
If information available through OurTrainingRoom is not accessible to you, please contact us. We will work with you, and where appropriate with the organization providing your training, to determine a suitable accessible format, communication support or alternative means of accessing the information or service.
Requests for accessible formats or communication supports will be addressed as promptly as reasonably possible, taking into account the person's accessibility needs and applicable legal requirements.
Feedback and reporting an accessibility barrier
We welcome accessibility feedback. If you encounter a barrier, please tell us what happened and, where possible, identify the page, course or feature involved. Information about the browser, device or assistive technology you were using can also help us investigate the issue.

Ongoing review
This policy and our accessibility practices will be reviewed periodically and updated as appropriate to reflect changes to the platform, applicable legislation, accessibility standards, assistive technologies and recognized good practices.
OurTrainingRoom will continue to work toward removing identified barriers and improving the accessibility and usability of its digital services.
